On Sunday November 10th, St. Demetrius celebrated its Parish Anniversary with an Archpastoral Divine Liturgy and celebratory banquet...On Sunday, the 10th of November the children of St. Demetrius, with their smiling faces, greeted His Grace, Bishop Andriy with a beautiful bouquet of red roses. He was then officially greeted with bread and salt by Darcy Moskalyk-Rutkay, representing both parish council and, as President, the Eastern Executive of UWAC/CYK and Olga Kuch, President of UWAC/CYK, Sophia Rusova Branch here at St. Demetrius. It was a special day for the local branch because, this year, it was celebrating its 70th anniversary of their tireless effort and undying support for the church. Fr. Walter than greeted the Bishop asking him for his fatherly blessings for the entire parish.

 

 

 

After the Archpastoral Divine Liturgy the participating members enjoyed a delicious meal in the parish hall, after which, the program continued with greetings and donations from parish organizations as well as greetings from representatives of sister parishes and a cultural program of singing and instrumental music from the youth of St. Demetrius. Near the end of the festivities Olga Kuch was asked to come up to the podium to accept a special certificate (Hramota) given to the Sophia Branch by His Eminence, Metropolitan Yurij to acknowledge the efforts of the women’s association and to highlight their 70th anniversary.

 

 

 

In his closing remarks Bishop Andriy praised the parish of St. Demetrius for their selfless efforts in serving the Lord and the Ukrainian Orthodox community and to keep up this exemplary role for years to come
