On the evening of Saturday January 18th, St. Demetrius parish celebrated Theophany Eve and Jordan Supper. During the evening service, known as The Grand Compline or Велике Повечір’я, Fr. Walter Makarenko performed The Great Blessing of Water or Велике Освячення Води. The St. Demetrius church choir, conducted by Christina Kowalenko, sang the service as well as сarols or щедрівки after the service.

Following the service, the Jordan dinner was held in the church hall. The dinner included traditional lenten dishes such as kutya, borshcht, perogies, cabbage rolls, fish, mushrooms - all prepared by parish members from team "C". During the dinner, Wasyl and Lukian Zmiyivski serenaded the audience on their violins with a collection of carols. The St. Demetrius Bandura ensemble, under the direction of Ron Demeda, then entertained the audience with a medley of carols, followed by a special version of Carol of the Bell or Шедрик. The audience was then treated to a performance of the traditional Vertep, organized by Mr. Mychajlo Chachula. The short program, MC'd by Mrs. Oksana Balaban, included greetings from the parish president Michael Kalimin and UWAC president Mrs. Olga Kuch. The audience then participated in the singing of numerous traditional carols, led by parish choir director Victor Kowalenko. The evening was concluded with closing words and prayer by Father Walter.

Thank-you to all who attended, participated, and performed during the evening. Special thanks to "Team C" for organizing such an enjoyable event.
