During the Passion of Christ service, the reading of the Twelve Gospels is conducted. In these readings Christ's last instructions to his disciples are presented, as well as the prophecy of the drama of the Cross, Christ's prayer, and his new commandment. In the Ukrainian tradition, the faithful then carry home the "Thursday Fire" - the candles held during the reading of the 12 Passion Gospels. The flame is used to light the lampada in the family's Icon Corner where it remains burning  for the whole year.
