Holodomor Commemoration and Panachyda

On Saturday November 22, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress commemorated the Holodomor with a Panakhyda at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Orthodox Church.  The Panakhyda was led by Bishop Andriy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and Bishop Stephan of the Ukrainian Catholic Church.  Participating clergy were, from the Orthodox Church: Fr. Volodymyr (Walter) Makarenko, Fr. George Hnatiw, Fr. Bohdan Sencio, Fr. Bohdan Hladio, Fr. Jaroslaw Buciora, Fr. Petro Anhel and Fr. Volodymyr Feskiv, and from the Catholic Church: Fr. Roman Pankiv.  The memorial service was followed by a short program which included viewing of a short excerpt from the movie "Holodomor: Voices of Survivors", as well as speakers from the Ukrainian community, government representatives, and survivors of the Holodomor.

On Sunday November 23, St. Demetrius held another Panachyda memorial service after the Liturgy, in memory of victims of the Holodomor Famine from 1932-1933 in Ukraine.
